With funding support from the National Rural Health Mission, Government of Haryana, SMART produced over 200 programs on health issues and broadcast them on a regular basis on the Community Radio- Radio Mewat.
The programs covered issues related to immunization, sanitation, nutrition, pre natal, pregnancy, post natal, RCH, violence, delivery huts, mobile vans, infant health, common diseases like TB, hypertension, tobacco, diabetes, heart related problems, problems of adolescence, youth and specific programs for the girl child. The programs discussed a varied list of subjects which included discussions on seasonal illnesses, home remedies, facilities available at the PHCs, the hospitals, it would include interviews with doctors, CMOs, Asha workers, anganwadi workers, ANM’s and other health workers like the mobile van drivers etc. Documentation of success was an integral component of this series. Quiz competitions were organized to ensure participation of the community and prizes were announced every week. The prizes included cash awards as well as transistors. The entire region of Mewat was covered with teams visiting the different blocks and reporting from the ground. Besides this interviews with the concerned departmental heads and Govt of Haryana Officials were also hosted.
