The programme against domestic violence was launched in Nuh district of Haryana, which is around 70 kms from Delhi. A Muslim-majority area, the population primarily subsists on seasonal livelihoods. The district ranked 2nd lowest in Niti Aayog’s list of most backward districts of the country in 2018. The community is very conservative and especially for women as they have no agency of women to make their decision, less focus on girl child education, early age marriage, early pregnancy, no right on property, lack of skills and heavy dowry all of these are the reasons behind increase in cases of violence against women.
